Thai peppers require well-drained soil, full sunlight and protection from hot, dry wind. To grow Thai peppers in containers, choose a container with a drainage hole, and fill the container with all-purpose commercial potting soil. Thai hot pepper plants are dual-duty plants, both edible and ornamental.
When can I pick my chili peppers?
Hot peppers are ready for harvest in 60 to 95 days after sowing. Pick hot peppers when they have reached full size and their mature color. Cut the peppers off the vine. Pulling a pepper away from the plant may cause the plant to come out of the soil.
Are green Thai chili peppers hot?
Throughout Thailand, Green Thai chile peppers have been widely adopted into traditional cuisine since their introduction in the 15th and 16th centuries and have a moderate to hot level of spice, ranging 50,000-100,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Do chilli plants need sun or shade?
You do need a warm, sheltered spot – inside or outside – with at least six hours sun to grow chillies with any reliable success (they will be reluctant to fruit without). But with the right conditions, chillies can do brilliantly in containers.
